I think it is likely that your sister will need to upgrade to the App Store version. Just don't ask about CC issues as they don't offer any support for CC. The mac version is actually the sims 2 Super collection (All these names are confusing ). It works really well with El Capitan 10.11.4 and it has all of the patches already applied and you can also get the latest Body Shop and Package Installer. I am of the opinion that you should get The Sims 2: Complete Collection. There would be problem with trying to apply the various patches needed as well, so I think you should just upgrade to the newest version. Also I am wondering if El Capitan is compatible with that old version even if it is an Intel version, you could try asking Aspyr about it I suppose.

If you had a Mac that was running OS 10.6x that is Snow Leopard you could update that version to the Intel version, but that may not be something that you can do. If the version your are trying to install is really old, it might be old enough to be not compatible because it wasn't Intel back then.
